NR 007.11- For Immediate Release- September 20, 2011
Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation, SK-
An event to bring the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation together and warm up the community for the winter is receiving a cool response from the public.
The “Warm Up Your Family Day” to be held on October 5 has received a lot of well-wishes, but not so much in community donations. The event which aims to provide free winter clothes to members of our community, was conceived last year. “I was driving just past the new sub-division this past winter and I saw a young boy wearing rubber boots, and a really worn jacket” says the event organizer, Linda Mike. “It pulled at my heart and my initial thought was that there is no need for this in our community. We help each other out all the time; it’s what our community prides itself on! Surely we can do the same in the winter months.”
“The event and all the items will be free” exclaims Linda. “All we need are community members who want to contribute to a good cause and make a difference! We are still looking for toques, mitts, scarves, jackets, ski pants, boots, blankets, etc for the event, basically anything to keep a person warm in the winter.”
Individuals who donate items, or attend the event are eligible to win a $50.00 grocery voucher. If you would like to donate items, you can call Linda at (306) 467-4644, text at (306) 232-0445, or drop off your items at 440-5
St in Duck Lake.
